Moab Adventure Center is a tour company and booking hub on Main Street in Moab, Utah, offering guided rafting, off-road, canyoneering, climbing and national park tours in the red-rock country around the town. Everything it sells happens in and around Moab: on the Colorado River, in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, at Dead Horse Point, on Hell's Revenge and in Castle Valley, with multi-day river trips through Cataract Canyon to Lake Powell and through Desolation Canyon. Its About page says it opened in 2003 and is part of the Western River Expeditions family, which it says has been guiding river trips in Utah since 1961. The 4-Day "Southwest Sampler" Moab Vacation Package (4 Days, 3 Nights, weekly, May to September) combines two nights in town, a Hummer safari, an Arches tour, two days of rafting and a night of riverside camping, at $1,150 for adults 16+ and $995 for youth 5-15. The 4-Day Cataract Canyon & Canyonlands National Park trip covers 100 miles to Lake Powell from June to August at $2,050 ($1,750 youth). The 5-Day Desolation Canyon Wilderness Expedition costs $2,560, and a 2-Day Cataract Canyon trip departs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from May to July.

How the day works

The FAQ says most tours include gear, transportation, safety instruction and local guides, and some include meals, reusable water bottles and national park entry permits. The company offers pickup and drop-off at most Moab hotels and campgrounds for booked tours, though the shuttle page says pickup may not be offered every month. Guides, according to the FAQ, are trained in CPR, first aid and wilderness safety, and many hold certifications in their activity. The company says it is a member of America Outdoors and works with the National Park Service.

On who can come, the FAQ describes trips for ages "from 5 to 85" and says many are made for beginners, such as gentle floats, Hummer tours and short Arches hikes. It is also direct about the harder ones: Westwater Canyon, Cataract Canyon, mountain biking and some canyoneering "require more stamina, comfort in the water, or the ability to hike or ride longer distances". Each tour card lists its own age bands.

Booking and weather

Tours are booked online through the site's booking system or by phone at (435) 259-7019; the office is open Monday to Saturday 6:30am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 5pm MST. Private tours, group trips, corporate retreats and wedding-party adventures are all offered. Booking four or more adventures earns a free 40oz insulated bottle. On weather, the FAQ says that if staff decide a tour cannot run, they will reschedule or offer another adventure, and refund the payment if neither works.
