Rome Free Walking Tour is the website of an authorized tourist agency in Rome, Italy, that runs its own daily free walking tour and sells paid guided tours of the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums, the Pantheon and other sights. The footer names the business behind it: "TOURIST SERVICES BY: DORISTEA", with a Lazio region authorization, "AUT. REGIONE LAZIO N. GR 615736", a liability insurance policy with Filodiretto, and an address at Via Casperia, 31, in Rome. The about page describes "cultural entertainment professionals with decades of experience in cultural-tourism services at all levels", and says its services "can also include those of selected and highly qualified partners".

All the walking tours are in Rome and the Vatican. The menu also has an "Other Cities" section, but the site does not describe those destinations on its main pages. The homepage claims "over 2,000 very positive TripAdvisor reviews", and it stresses its guides: "Expert licensed tour guides" and "Fully authorized local guides", described on the tour page as "all licensed and graduated in history of art or archeology".

The free walk: Squares and Fountains

The free tour is "Squares & Fountains - Main Highlights of Rome", which the site calls a "Welcome Tour". It runs twice a day, with a Morning Tour and an Afternoon Tour, lasts 2 hours and takes "Up to 25 people" of all ages. It "starts in Piazza di Spagna by the Spanish Steps and ends at Piazza Navona", passing the Barcaccia fountain, the Trevi Fountain, the Column of Marcus Aurelius, Palazzo Chigi, the Temple of Hadrian and the Pantheon, and finishing at Bernini's Four Rivers Fountain. The theme, the page says, is how "the places of the Roman Empire have been transformed over the centuries into Papal properties and became symbols of the Pope's power."

Along the way the guide explains that the Pantheon, once a temple to all the pagan gods, now holds the tombs of Italian kings and of Raphael, and that Piazza Navona, with Borromini's façade of S. Agnese, sits on the site of an ancient Roman stadium. The page suggests visiting St. Peter's Square, the Basilica and the Vatican Museums on your own afterward, or booking tickets through the company to avoid the line. Reviews quoted on the homepage, the company's own selection from TripAdvisor, name guides Laura, Alessandra, Fabio and Sylvia; one family says they did the tour with a 9-year-old and it "was not exhausting".

The meeting point is precise: "Piazza di Spagna, 30 To the right of the Spanish Steps. Look for the green cross of the Pharmacy." The menu adds Vatican Gardens tours, an early-bird private Vatican tour, a Colosseum Express with arena access, private Colosseum underground and arena tours, St. Peter's Basilica with the dome climb, tickets, and cooking classes and food tours. Booking, paying and cancelling

The free tour costs €1 per person to book, with infants aged 0 to 5 free. The page explains: "This is a free tour, the booking cost allows you to secure a spot and to show commitment to our tour, while also covering our online service costs." The site does not suggest a tip amount for the guide.

There is a firm rule on group size: "It is not possible to book the free walking tour for more than 4 people in the same group. For bigger groups please book a private or semiprivate tour." For what to bring, "There is a moderate amount of walking involved so please wear comfortable shoes."

On cancellation, the tour page says that anyone who needs "to cancel the tour or move the reservation to another date or time" should email the company "so we can free your spot for someone else and we can re-book for you so you don't have to pay again." For a first afternoon in Rome, the €1 Squares and Fountains walk with a licensed art historian or archaeologist, from a pharmacy on the Spanish Steps to Piazza Navona, is a well-defined, well-reviewed start. The small-group paid tours, capped at 8, are a natural next step for the Colosseum or the Vatican, and the 5% voucher rewards booking both.
