An Active Travel Brand From EF

EF Adventures runs its own small-group active tours: hiking, biking and what it calls Multi-Adventure trips. Its About page calls it "An active travel company built on cultural learning" and explains that it "grew out of EF Education First, founded in 1965," and it says "When EF Adventures launched in 2024," it could draw on EF's 60 years of experience. The same page contrasts the brand with companies that "begin with the activity," saying "We began with the culture," and notes that its trip designers and guides already hiked, biked and paddled on their days off. The contact details point to the EF Center Boston in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and prices are shown in US dollars.

The homepage pitches the three styles in a line each: hiking "From the Andes to the Alps," biking where "Spanish coasts and Italian vineyards are better on world-class bikes," and Multi-Adventure trips to "Kayak, zipline, raft, and more in the world's most stunning places." The best sellers shown across the site are in Spain and Portugal, Japan, Portugal's Algarve and Alentejo, Slovenia and Croatia, the Alps of Switzerland, Italy and France, Greece and Costa Rica, and a fjord region also appears in the carousel.

Tours and Prices

Each tour card lists a length, an optional extension, a guest rating and a from-price per person. Spain and Portugal Hiking: Camino de Santiago runs 11 days, or 13 with a Porto extension, from $5,719. Alps Hiking: Switzerland, Italy and France runs 12 days (14 with Annecy) from $7,590. Japan Multi-Adventure: The Japanese Alps and Shikoku runs 12 days (14 with Kyoto) from $7,250. Portugal Multi-Adventure: Algarve and Alentejo runs 9 days, or 13 with an Azores and Lisbon extension, from $4,969, Slovenia and Croatia Multi-Adventure: Istria and Julian Alps 11 days from $6,150, Greece Multi-Adventure: Crete and Santorini 9 days from $5,139, and Costa Rica Multi-Adventure: Arenal and Guanacaste Coast 9 days from $5,290. The footer notes that prices are "per person, before flights, and based on two travelers per hotel room on select departure dates."

For cyclists, the About page makes a distinctive claim: "EF Pro Cycling is the only team owned by a travel company," which it says means "pro-designed routes, pro-ridden gear" for guests on its biking tours.

Guides, Hotels and Food

The homepage promises itineraries "designed by people who've walked the trails, tasted the wines, and know when to push and when to pause," so that travelers "hit the highlights" but also "find the moments most travelers miss." It describes the local guides as "Passionate. Connected. The best kind of local," adding that "Our guides aren't reading from a script," and says they "know the winemaker by name, the shortcut to the overlook, and the story behind the ruin," and the About page speaks of "a guide who grew up on that mountain, not one who learned it from a manual." The app page mentions each group's Tour Director, and the menu links a page about the Tour Directors.

The homepage says "Every hotel is handpicked for comfort, character, and local flavor," and it pairs the hotels with "hand-selected local restaurants." The Hotels page says the properties are "Curated with 60 years of expertise," ranging "from 3-star boutique gems to 5-star luxury retreats," and "From family-run countryside inns to sleek urban hotels and premium beach resorts." Whenever possible, it says, the company picks hotels "with pools, spas, or quiet spaces built for genuine rest," and it prioritizes properties with sustainability certifications that use renewable energy, water-saving systems, refillable containers and biodegradable toiletries.

On food, the homepage headline is "Regional. Seasonal. Worth lingering over," with meals built into the trip such as "a cooking class with a local family, a vineyard lunch after a morning ride, a dinner that turns strangers into friends." It also says "We build extra time into every tour," not only for rest but "for depth."

Booking, Flights and the App

Flights are an optional package, and the Flights page describes an in-house Flights Team, round-trip flights on established international airlines, airport transfers on the tour's standard arrival and departure days, and a guarantee of "a flight itinerary option at the price you see when adding your airfare package." Airfare can be spread with AutoPay, an interest-free monthly installment plan, or deferred to the final payment. The Flights Team starts work when airlines release schedules, "about a year out" from departure, the final itinerary arrives 85 to 60 days before the trip, and flights can be added up to the Tour Finalization Date, 70 days before departure. AnyReason Protection lets travelers cancel any time before checking in for their first flight and receive a voucher to rebook the tour.

The free app, which the site calls "Your go-to, all-in-one tour companion," holds a pre-tour checklist, flight details for those who booked flights, a way to connect with fellow travelers and the Tour Director, shared photos, a currency converter and options to add excursions or extensions. Phone support is at 1-800-206-9836. The footer places EF Adventures in the EF World Journeys family of brands, and the resource menu lists Trip Protection, Payment plans, Traveler reviews and an affiliate program alongside the pages on activity levels and safety.

What the Site Leaves Open and Who It Suits

The About, hotel, flight and app pages do not give a maximum group size beyond calling the trips "Small-group active travel," and the standard cancellation schedule is not set out beyond the AnyReason option. The menu links pages on physical activity levels, travel safety and bike equipment, which are the places to check how demanding a particular tour is.

The About page frames the whole brand around responsibility: "we wove it into everything from the start," it says of suppliers, routes and community relationships. EF Adventures suits travelers who want an active trip with good hotels, planned meals and cultural time built in, and who like the backing of a large travel group with in-house flights and an app. It suits less well budget travelers, since the lowest from-price shown is $4,969 before flights, or anyone who prefers to hike or ride independently.
