A Local Photographer's Lisbon

Phototours Lisbon runs its own photography tours, workshops and photo sessions in Lisbon, led by Pedro Pina Vasconcelos, who describes himself on the About page as "a professional photographer in Lisbon." All the tours on the site are in the city, and prices are in euros. The homepage says "I'm a photographer from Lisbon, and I've been photographing this city for years. Photography changed the way I see Lisbon," naming "its light, streets, people and unexpected moments." He sums up the aim as "to help you discover Lisbon, make better photographs and enjoy the experience along the way." The site speaks of "our team" when it mentions exhibitions, but it names only Vasconcelos, and the reviews it shows all refer to Pedro. The About page frames his approach: "The affair with the light, the streets, the people. From taking a photo to creating an image, from that serendipitous moment to a curated mood," and "Lisbon is the perfect 'frame' to challenge you." He says he enjoys "helping each person develop their skills, confidence and own photographic personality." The page's headline line is "I enjoy exploring the different possibilities of the image and its perception, with Lisbon as my favourite frame," and it links to a portfolio, noting that "my works vary from theme and technique." That portfolio is the place to judge his eye before booking.

Tours and Workshops

The tours page describes the offer as "practical photography coaching with a chance to discover Lisbon in a new and different way, day or night," with the invitation to "Explore the streets and alleys of the old city, improve your photography skills and develop your own creative approach." It lists these photo workshop-tours: Down The Hills, Alfama & Baixa; The Magic Hours; Tailor-Made; and SmArt Phone. The homepage says the workshops "combine photography, exploration and personal guidance in small groups."

The SmArt Phone tour has the fullest page. It is headed "Alfama/Downtown" and tagged "All levels. Moderate walking. Minimum 3 participants." The page calls it "a relaxed and practical photowalk through Lisbon, designed to help you make better use of the camera you always have with you," and says participants "try different photographic approaches and discover how to turn quick snapshots into more thoughtful and creative images." It starts with "some tips on how to make the best of your creativity and the basics of photographic composition," then moves into a photowalk "through many interesting and photogenic spots," with friends as models if they like. The details box gives a duration of 2h30 and a price of "Min. 3 people 30 € each." The page calls it a "light but bright tour."

The tours overview does not repeat the details of Down The Hills, The Magic Hours or Tailor-Made; each has its own page behind a "Read More" link, and that is where a traveler should look for their length and price.

Photo Sessions and Exhibitions

Alongside the tours, the site sells photo sessions, where the photographer takes the pictures. Under "Local Knowledge" it promises to "Explore Lisbon beyond the obvious viewpoints," through "streets, neighbourhoods and places I know from photographing the city."

Booking and Reviews

The SmArt Phone page has a booking calendar ("Please select the day you would like to book the tour on the calendar") with a form asking for name, email, phone and notes, and the site has a shopping basket. For questions, the homepage lists the phone number +351 933 139 785 and the email booking@phototourslisbon.com, and says "I'll be glad to help." The tours page adds "Give us a call or e-mail us if you wish to know more about who we are and what we do." The site is available in English and Portuguese.

On the SmArt Phone tour it gives a minimum of 3 but no maximum, and it does not say what happens if the minimum is not reached. It does not name a meeting point beyond the "Alfama/Downtown" heading, list the languages the tours are guided in, or address accessibility beyond the "Moderate walking" tag. It does not say how photos from a photo session are delivered.

For travelers who want to shoot Lisbon's old quarters with a local photographer in a small group, or learn to get more from a phone camera for 30 € a head, the offer is clear. Those who prefer one-to-one time can ask about the Tailor-Made format or a photo session.
