The Company and Its Reach

Click&Boat is a boat rental marketplace. It does not own boats or run trips itself: private owners and professional charter companies list their boats and skippered outings, and renters book them through the site. The About page says the idea came from 2 founders, Edouard and Jérémy, and "a simple observation: on average, among the million boats in France, very few are used for more than 10 days a year," with annual running costs averaging "10% of the price of the boat every year." The platform is described there as "a collaborative platform based on sharing and trust." The English homepage text claims "more than 55,000 privately owned yachts available for hire with or without a skipper" and calls Click&Boat "the French leader in peer-to-peer yacht charters," while the About page headline reads "the leading professional and private yacht charter company."

Coverage is broad but weighted to Europe. The French homepage focuses on France, with destinations such as Ajaccio, Annecy, Arcachon, Bonifacio, the Canal du Midi, Cannes, Hyères, La Rochelle and Marseille, plus Guadeloupe and Martinique. The English menus list Croatia (Dubrovnik, Split), Greece (Athens, Corfu), Italy (Como, Sardinia), Spain (Barcelona, Ibiza, Mallorca), Malta, Monaco and Thailand. Prices on the site are shown in euros.

What You Can Rent or Book

Listings are organized by boat type (catamarans, houseboats, motorboats, RIBs, sailboats and yachts, with jet skis and barges mentioned on the homepage) and by charter type (without a license, fishing, luxury, and with a skipper). A "Things to do" section turns the same catalog into skippered experiences: sunset, dinner and lunch cruises, night tours, party boats, team-building trips, lake and river tours and wildlife cruises for dolphin and whale watching.

The Night Boat Tour page shows how this looks in practice. It says "36 experiences available," and the first results are in Italy: a 6-hour Gulet sunset cruise in the Gulf of Naples for groups of up to 37 people from €3,500, a 5-hour "Capri by Night" motorboat trip from Piano di Sorrento for up to 12 people from €700, a 2-hour private sunset cruise from Positano for up to 5 people from €300, and a 3-hour dinner tour from Isola Rossa on a Gulet for up to 22 people from €1,500. Each result shows the owner's rating and review count, whether a skipper and fuel are included, and badges for "Instant booking" and "Flexible cancellation." The page notes that listings are "ranked based on a score that is recalculated every 24 hours."

For France, the French homepage gives average rental prices: about €2,800 a week for a catamaran, €1,555 a week for a sailboat, €340 a day for a motorboat and €330 a day for a RIB, with prices varying by boat size, season and departure port.

How Booking Works

The How It Works page walks renters through the process. You search by destination and boat type, then create a free account, complete a profile and a sailing CV, and message the owner through the internal messaging service to check availability and ask questions. To book, you authorize the online payment and wait "24 hours maximum" for the owner to accept; the card is debited only if the booking is accepted, unless the listing offers instant booking, which the search filters describe as "Book without waiting for owner's confirmation." Once confirmed, owner and renter swap phone numbers and emails to settle the meeting time at the port, sign the hire contract and do the pre-charter inventory. The page says Click&Boat "only transfers your payment to the owner if the boat corresponds totally to the listing for which you booked," and pays the owner at the start of the hire period. After the trip, each side rates the other; owners rate renters on "sailing skills, responsibility, pleasantness."

On licenses, the French homepage explains that in France a boat license is needed only for motorboats over 6 horsepower, so renters without one can choose a small boat or a skippered rental, and that sailboat owners check the renter's sailing CV. It also summarizes license thresholds in Spain, Italy and Croatia.

Insurance, Cancellation and Support

The About page says every owner, private or professional, "must offer boats covered by insurance that is up-to-date and in line with their rental and/or co-navigation activity." The French homepage says the bare boat and insurance are included in a rental, with cancellation insurance optional, and that skippers, meals, sports equipment and provisioning should be checked in the listing or requested as a quote. For owners it advertises optional all-risk cover up to 8 million euros and a secured deposit. Owners are forbidden from making rental contracts outside the platform.

Cancellation terms depend on the listing. The search filters offer a "Flexible cancellation" option defined as "Refunds possible up to 24 hours before departure," while listings without that badge carry other terms that the search page does not spell out. The Dispute Resolution Policy says support runs "7 days a week" by email, contact form and chatbot. In a dispute, the team acts as a "facilitator," for example by supplying a weather bulletin when a trip is cancelled for weather, but "does not act as a 'judge' or 'arbitrator'." It can remove listings or suspend accounts that break the Terms of Use, and users can turn to the mediator named in Article 21 of the Terms of Use or to the courts.

What It Leaves Open and Who It Suits

Because each owner sets the price, the boat's condition and most of the terms, quality varies by listing, and the reviews and "Super owner" badge are the main signals. The About, How It Works and search pages do not state a service fee. The site does not say how it checks the owners it lists beyond the insurance rule and the ratings.

Click&Boat suits renters who want to choose their own boat, with or without a skipper, and are happy to message an owner and sort out the handover themselves. It also suits groups looking for a private skippered sunset or dinner cruise in a Mediterranean resort, where a single booking covers the whole boat. Travelers who want a scheduled, ticketed boat tour with a fixed departure will find the model less familiar, but the "Things to do" section brings it closer.
