Napa Valley Aloft runs its own hot air balloon flights over Napa Valley, California. The homepage says it was "founded in 1976" and is "Celebrating 50 Years," and calls it the "Most Trusted Napa Balloon Ride Since 1976." Passengers meet at The Estate Yountville, 6525 Washington Street, in Yountville, and the site describes the company as "the only hot air balloon company launching from the heart of Napa Valley at The Estate Yountville." Flights stay over wine country: the site says Yountville is the primary launch option, rural North Napa Valley is the secondary one, and "weather dictates the location."

The company pitches itself on local depth. The homepage says it flies "a higher percentage of true Napa Valley balloon flight routes than other operators," and that it holds "exclusive rights to multiple hot air balloon launch site options across Napa Valley." It also describes itself as "recognized as an award-winning hot air balloon ride in Napa Valley and across the United States," without naming the awards. A quote the site reproduces from Travel + Leisure credits "the Kimball Family and Napa Valley Aloft" with flying over the valley "long before it became a world-famous food and wine destination."

The flights on offer

The homepage shows two flight options and links to a fuller flight options page.

The Premier Balloon Experience, subtitled "Soar, Sip and Savor," lists welcoming refreshments, the Yountville location, and an estimated 4-hour experience with a balloon ride of 45 to 60 minutes.

The Private Balloon Flight, subtitled "Above It All," is described as "perfect for celebrating anniversaries, special occasions and marriage proposals."

Neither option shows a price on the homepage, and the site does not say how many passengers fly in a Premier basket or how large a private party can be. Gift certificates have their own menu item, and a banner promises "Exclusive Tastings After Booking."

After every flight, according to the homepage, passengers get "a glass of sparkling wine with your fellow pilots and aeronauts in a relaxed setting at our partner winery." The site frames this as a chance "to connect with your pilot, ask questions, and share photos with your new friends." The partner winery is not named.

The morning and the view

The FAQ explains the early start. Napa balloon rides "are always an early morning sport," and the company launches "just after dawn when the winds are at their calmest and the temperatures are the coolest." It asks passengers to plan on "about 3-4 hours, excluding any shuttle service from your lodging," covering check-in, inflation, the flight, pack-up and the ride back from the landing site, and adds that it can "only provide an estimate" because of the many variables in ballooning.

Check-in is at The Estate Yountville, which the site calls "simple to locate" with "all the amenities," close to Bouchon Bakery, restaurants and lodging. On most days, the FAQ says, balloons launch "from the historic grounds of the V Marketplace, Vintage 1870, in the heart of Yountville." From the air, the FAQ lists Mt. St. Helena to the north, the Mayacamas range to the west and the Vaca Range to the east, and says that with favorable winds the balloons may climb high enough to glimpse the San Francisco skyline and the Sierras. A separate FAQ answer notes there are no balloon rides in San Francisco itself, and that the city can be seen from a Napa flight on clear days.

Fog and the Pope Valley option

Fog is the main operational issue the site addresses. The FAQ says Napa Valley's floor is "the primary launch area for all hot air balloon companies," and that fog, which it puts at 40% of mornings from April to July (citing 2019), forces companies to launch outside the valley when visibility is too low. Napa Valley Aloft says it has "exclusive rights to a viable alternate flight corridor" in the north of the valley. That corridor is Pope Valley, which the FAQ describes as a rural area that "experiences a low percentage of the fog because of its high elevation on the eastern base of Howell Mountain," with flights launching from the Kimball Ranch. The homepage adds that the company has "more launch site possibilities than any other company, increasing the likelihood of flying on foggy mornings."

The site also reproduces a Bon Traveler quote on this point: "They are the only balloon company allowed to ride in Pope Valley, which means when there is a weather issue, you are not headed to Davis, California, like the other competitors." That is a press quote the company has chosen to show, not a statement the site makes in its own words.

Pilots and booking

On safety, the site speaks about its pilots in its own voice. It says its "FAA-certified balloon pilots are among the most experienced in the industry," with knowledge of the valley's terrain and weather. A section on certified professional rides operators says "all PRO Operators are fully licensed & insured" and that their pilots are FAA certified. The site gives no crash statistics, insurance figures or pilot names on the homepage, though the menu links to Safety, Family and Meet pages.

Booking is through the "Book Your Flight" button, and the phone number is (707) 944-4400. The menu also lists pre-flight information, FAQs, a partners page and a media page, and the homepage quotes Zagat as saying the flight is "well worth doing" even in winter.

What the site leaves open, and who it suits

The homepage does not print prices for either flight. It does not state the deposit, the payment methods or a cancellation window, and it does not say what happens to a booking when fog grounds even the Pope Valley option. Age, weight and mobility requirements are not covered on the homepage, and the private flight's capacity is not given. The duration also reads two ways, "estimated 4 hours" on the flight card and "about 3-4 hours" in the FAQ.

What it does offer is a long local history, a central Yountville meeting point with food and lodging nearby, a stated fallback launch area for foggy mornings, and a glass of sparkling wine at a partner winery after landing. It suits visitors staying in or near Yountville who want a classic sunrise flight over the Napa vineyards, and couples planning a private flight for a proposal or anniversary, provided they check the price and terms at booking.
