Group travel for 18 to 35s, worldwide
Contiki runs its own multi-day group trips, and only for travelers aged 18 to 35. The homepage promises "200+ expertly designed trips across 6 continents," and the about page says "Trips in 6+ continents," naming Italy, Mexico and Thailand as examples and trip types from city breaks to safari and skiing. The trending destinations on the homepage are Japan, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Peru, Vietnam, Thailand, Morocco and Croatia. The company behind the European site is Contiki Holidays Limited, registered in St Peter Port, Guernsey, and the site says Contiki is part of The Travel Corporation portfolio of brands. On the EU site, all trip prices are in euros, and the phone number shown is 00 41 22 595 6391.
The homepage says the company has been "tried and trusted by millions of travelers since 1962." The about page shows a rating of 4.7/5 from 25,000 reviews and refers to "20,000+ 5⭐ Feefo reviews," so the site cites Feefo as the source of its reviews. The reviews it quotes are its own selection: a traveler on European Magic writes of having "Made friends for a lifetime," and one on Scotland in a Week praises the value for money. The about page also carries the company's MAKE TRAVEL MATTER program, which it says aims at a positive impact on local communities, wildlife and the planet, without detailing on that page what the program funds.
The trips and travel styles
Every trip is built around the same core. The about page lists what is included: "Your Contiki Trip Manager & Driver," special stays, "Local transport & internal flights," city tours led by local guides, "Breakfast daily (plus loads of other meals)" and 24/7 support. The pitch is that the group sees the main sights and also meets local people through what it calls culturally immersive experiences.
The menus group trips in several ways. By style, the site lists adventure, cycling, train travel, sailing, solo travel and wellness. By type, it has ski trips and holiday packages, world tours, short breaks, Island Hopper trips, train trips, Pride trips and a small group tours range. The how-it-works page adds a choice of summer or winter trips and trips for 18 to 22s or for 27 to 35s, so the age band within the 18 to 35 range can be narrowed. Deals menus list a €0 deposit deal, last-minute deals for Europe and Asia, and "Trips Under €800."
The travel magazine gives a sense of individual trips. Greek Island Hopping is listed at 11 days, "Exclusively for 18-35 year olds," with a stay at what the article calls a dreamy resort, ferries to the major islands and a speedboat safari with snorkeling around a shipwreck and underwater caves. The same article points to Morocco Uncovered, listed at 14 days, which stops in Essaouira, a Morocco to Casablanca trip that includes Aït Benhaddou, Scotland in a Week, a Sicily trip, and an Iceland Fire and Ice trip with a meal at a traditional farm.
Group size and the Contiki format
Contiki is a group-tour company first. The portfolio page compares The Travel Corporation's brands side by side, and the youth column ("Next Gen") describes the Contiki style: comfy hotels, hostels and some special stays, breakfast every day and Contiki chefs, foodie tours, cooking classes and basic sightseeing, a luxury mainstream coach, and "Group size: 53 max." The other columns on that page (budget, value, premium and high-end) describe sister brands with different hotels, coaches and group sizes, not Contiki options. The menu does list a small group tours range, but the site does not state its group size alongside it.
On the road, each group has a Trip Manager and a driver, with local guides for city tours; the about page bills the three together as "The travel dream team" and says they help the group explore "with complete confidence." The site says "The details are all planned by us so all you gotta do is show up."
Booking, paying and changing plans
The how-it-works page lays out ten steps. After choosing a trip, travelers can ask Contiki to arrange accommodation a few days before or after it. A place is secured with a €100 deposit, and the balance can go on an automatic payment plan or be paid manually "in as many instalments as you like"; the homepage says monthly or bi-weekly payment is "interest-free." Flights are the traveler's own job once the booking is confirmed. The My Contiki portal holds travel documents, and 30 days before departure the group can start chatting there. A separate Facebook group, the Contiki Travel Lounge, is offered for tips from past travelers.
On changes, the site gives two different windows. The how-it-works page says "You can change your trip date (or your trip itself) up to 60 days before you go," while the homepage says "Amend your booking up to 45 days pre-trip" and "Plans changed? Your payments are protected." The footer links to the booking conditions, a Future Travel Credit page, a Code of Conduct, a Personal Security page and an Accessibility Statement. There is also a travel gift card, a refer-a-friend offer and a request-a-quote form.
What the site leaves open, and who it suits
The site does not reconcile the 60-day and 45-day change windows, and it does not summarize the refund rules for a cancellation outside the booking conditions. It does not state the group size of the small group range. It does not spell out which meals beyond breakfast are included, past the promise of "loads of other meals." The age rule is firm, so anyone under 18 or over 35 is outside the audience.
Contiki suits travelers in its age band who want the logistics taken off their hands and who like the idea of traveling with a large group of peers, with a Trip Manager and driver throughout and a low deposit to hold a place. Travelers who want a small, quiet group or full independence on the ground will find the standard format, a coach of up to 53, a different kind of trip. For a first multi-country trip with people of a similar age, the format is clear and the inclusions are spelled out before booking.
