What It Is and Where It Operates

Xpotours is an online booking platform for excursions and airport transfers, selling tours run by local excursion and transport companies rather than presenting itself as the operator. The homepage says: "All promoted excursion and transportation companies are guaranteed registered and licensed with the Ministry of Tourism," and adds that the team has "experienced and enjoyed all promoted Tours and Excursions ourselves before adding them to our wide selection, and only work with the most reputable providers." Its destination menu lists the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica and Costa Rica, and the page title names Punta Cana, Cancun and Puerto Plata, but the tours actually shown are all in the Dominican Republic. There the excursion map counts tours by departure area: Bavaro and Punta Cana (55 each), Uvero Alto (49), Bayahibe (28), La Romana and Puerto Plata (15 each), Cabarete and Sosua (14 each), Juan Dolio (13), Cofresi-Maimon (12), Miches (10), Boca Chica (9), Las Terrenas (8), Samana (6), Las Galeras (5), Jarabacoa (3), Santo Domingo (2) and Rio San Juan (1). Prices are in US dollars. The site says "Trust the 377,043 clients we have served," describes the team as "travel professionals with over 30 years of experience," and has German and Spanish versions besides English. From Miches, a Cultural Safari is from US$90 and El Limon + Bacardi Island is from US$149. On the Samana peninsula, two Diving Double Tank trips (Samana Bay and Las Galeras, approx. 3 hours each) are from US$115 and are aimed at certified divers, Los Haitises & Cayo Levantado is a full day from US$95, a sailing and snorkeling day is from US$100, and whale watching is "Only available mid January to end of March."

How It Works on the Day

The booking system, in the site's words, "will show you available excursion hours and sends your instant confirmation including exact pick-up time from your hotel." Tour descriptions repeat the pattern: the 4x4 Honda Adventure begins "with the pickup at your hotel or pickup-point," the Puerto Plata city tour runs "from the time we pick you up from your hotel until we return you," and the Miches El Limon trip starts with a bus ride to the pier at Las Carnitas. A "Hotels by Region" search lets guests find tours by hotel, and the site lists 128 hotels in Bavaro alone. Vouchers arrive by email, and a "Your Voucher" link lets guests pull up a copy if the confirmation email does not arrive. The main gap is the cancellation rule: "FREE Cancellation" is a headline, not a policy with a stated number of hours. The homepage and region pages do not show any tours for Mexico, Jamaica or Costa Rica beyond the menu entries, so travelers heading there should check those country sections for the actual range before relying on it. Apart from a few venue names, such as the Flintstone Buggy Adventure Ranch, the region pages do not say which company runs each tour, only that the companies are registered with the Ministry of Tourism. Group sizes are given only for the buggies, and the kids rates menu does not state age bands on the region pages. Several tours are active (buggies, ATVs, diving, waterfalls), and the site's descriptions are the only guide to how demanding they are; the dive trips are pitched at certified divers.
