EF's group trips for travelers aged 18 to 35

EF Ultimate Break is the young-traveler brand of EF Education First, run from EF Center Boston at Two Education Circle, Cambridge, MA 02141. It designs and runs guided group trips for people aged 18 to 35, each led by its own Tour Director with local guides, and the about page says to "choose from 175+ trips". The regions menu lists Africa, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North America. Trips named on the site run from Tokyo to Osaka, through Italy, Germany and Switzerland, around Athens and the Greek Islands, to Machu Picchu, Bangkok and Phuket, Bali, Delhi and Jaipur, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Seoul and Busan, Cairo and Dubai, and Beijing and Shanghai. Prices are shown in US dollars.

The about page tells EF's story: it started in 1965 when Bertil Hult, a Swedish student who "struggled with English in school but found he learned quickly while interning in London", launched English immersion trips to the UK for Swedish students. EF opened language schools across Europe and Asia in the '70s, expanded into the US and launched group tours in the '80s and '90s, and became "the official language training provider for athletes and volunteers at multiple Olympic Games". The what-we-include page calls EF "the world's largest private education company" with more than 40,500 employees, teachers and volunteers in 107 countries, while the about page gives a team of "more than 52,000 people in 114 countries/regions". The two pages give different figures. Over 35s are pointed to other EF brands, Go Ahead Tours and EF Adventures.

Age bands and sample trips

The homepage sorts trips by age. Trips "best for" ages 20 to 28 typically use group-share rooms; trips for ages 25 to 35 put "1–2 travelers per room"; and the College Break Collection is "exclusively for ages 18–24", again with group-share rooms. The about page adds that rooms are shared "with the option to upgrade to private". Travel styles include beach, cruise and tour, safari, adventure, culture, nature and multi-country trips.

Some examples from the homepage carousels, with the sale and original prices shown:

  • Unlock Japan: Tokyo to Osaka, 14 days, 5 cities, for ages 25 to 35, from $3,309 (originally $3,909).
  • Uncover Japan: Tokyo & Beyond, 9 days, 4 cities, from $2,224 (originally $2,724).
  • Uncover Thailand: Bangkok to Phuket, 11 days, 3 cities, from $2,229 (originally $2,629).
  • New Zealand Quest: Auckland to Queenstown, 13 days, 5 cities, from $3,749 (originally $4,249).

  • Discover Europe: Italy, Germany & Switzerland, 10 days, 4 cities, from $1,699 (originally $1,899), pitched as "a love letter to carbs, chocolate, and drinking from a glass boot".
  • Machu Picchu Quest: Lima, Cusco & the Sacred Valley, 10 days, 4 cities, from $2,339 (originally $2,589).

Several cards also note how many places are left at the sale price. For first-time travelers, the about page suggests starting in Europe and names traveler favorites such as Iceland: The Golden Circle & Ring Road, Uncover Switzerland: Lausanne, Zermatt & Lucerne, Cruise Croatia: Split, Dubrovnik & Hvar, and Iconic Portugal: Porto & Lisbon. The careers page adds that staff in Boston go on tour once a year to understand the traveler experience. The homepage runs "trips up to $600 off", "up to $500 off last-minute deals" for 2026 travel, and up to $500 off College Break trips.

What a trip includes

The what-we-include page is specific. Travelers stay in "a mix of comfortable, centrally-located boutique hostels and hotels", with free breakfast each morning. A Welcome Dinner on the first night, usually at a bar or restaurant near the hotel, and a Farewell Dinner bookend the trip. The Tour Director stays with the group throughout, leads a city walk on arrival in each place, and orients travelers to public transport; the about page describes the role as a "Multilingual Tour Director". Professional local guides run panoramic city tours, and entrances to popular attractions are included, varying by itinerary. All buses, trains and flights between destinations are included, city transfers run in the group's private coach, and some cities come with a metro pass. Each traveler gets a personal Trip Specialist at booking and 24/7 emergency support.

The about page says more than 60% of EF travelers sign up solo, and that trips suit "solo travelers, first-time international travelers, college students, recent grads, and young professionals". It also says partners are chosen to "care for the environment, respect wildlife, and uplift communities", naming family-owned vineyards in Sicily and ethical elephant sanctuaries in Thailand. The site's safety line rests on EF's history: "We've been traveling for over 60 years, you're in good hands."

Booking, payment and the app

Trips can be paid over time with what the site calls "super-simple payment plans" that are "interest-and drama-free". Flights can be added, and EF then books them with airport transfers included and folds the cost into the monthly interest-free plan. The free app, on Apple and Android, handles booking, payments, optional excursions, a group chat before departure, offline itineraries and a shared photo album, plus app-only discounts. The footer lists pages for payment plans, repeat travelers, sorority and college travel, a student discount, refer-a-friend, travel protection and booking conditions, and groups can be organized through a dedicated link. Support runs by phone at 1-800 766-2645. On reviews, the homepage shows "18,000+ reviews" and quotes travelers who name Tour Directors such as Killian.

What the site leaves open, and who it suits

The homepage and about pages do not publish a group-size cap, the deposit amount, the payment-plan schedule or the cancellation terms; those sit in the booking conditions and payment-plan pages. Which attractions and extra meals each itinerary includes is left to the "What's included" section of each trip.

EF Ultimate Break suits travelers aged 18 to 35, especially those going alone, who want a fully planned trip with a built-in group, shared rooms and monthly payments. Anyone over 35 is outside its range by design, and travelers who want a private room as standard should look at the 25 to 35 trips or the upgrade option.
