An online tour operator selling packaged trips

Exoticca calls itself "an online tour operator made up of passionate travel experts". It designs travel packages in-house and delivers them through local partners: the about page says "our expert crafters work closely with trusted partners" and speaks of "long term partnerships with trusted local providers". Most packages, it says, "include flights, hotels, tours, transfers and some meals", and the range runs "from fully-escorted to self-guided". The about page gives the reach as "300+ itineraries" spanning "more than 60 countries". The US site, which prices in US dollars, lists a Hartford, Connecticut address (225 Asylum St, Floor 15) and a booking line, 1-888-488-0592.

The destination menu counts packages by region: Africa (52 available), the Americas (63), Asia (78), Europe (107) and Oceania (9). Within those, the largest country lists include Italy (17), Peru (16), France (15), England (13), Egypt (12), and India, South Africa and Greece (11 each). Smaller entries run to single trips in places such as Ethiopia, Kosovo, Bahrain and Canada.

The packages and their prices

The site groups trips by season (Spring, Winter, Fall, Easter, Christmas), by interest (Beach, Cruise & Tour, Safari, Adventure, Culture, Nature, Multi-Country) and by group (Family, Couples, Solo Travelers, Senior). Every card shows a "from" price against a higher crossed-out price with a percentage off. Some examples from the homepage and landing pages:

The homepage also advertises a "Knockout Deal" of Morocco "from $1,449" for "11 days, flights included". Trip names often say whether a trip is escorted or self-guided, which is the clearest guide on the listing pages to how much guiding a package includes.

The themed landing pages show how wide the range runs. The beach page mixes resort stays with touring: All-Inclusive Indian Ocean Paradise in the Maldives, 7 days from $3,349; Panama City & All-Inclusive Playa Blanca, 7 days from $1,399; Ancient Ruins, Paros & Santorini in Greece, 11 days from $2,549; and A Cypriot Adventure, 9 days from $2,399. The solo travel page gathers trips that suit people traveling alone, among them Hashemite Kingdom, Pyramids & Nile Cruise across Jordan and Egypt in 16 days from $3,599, marked a best seller; The Golden Triangle in India, 8 days from $1,699; Colonial Charms & Central Highlands in Mexico, 10 days from $1,599; and Luxury Safari & All-Inclusive Zanzibar in Kenya and Tanzania, 15 days from $5,899. The fall page, headed "Up to 60% off", pitches the season as a time when "many of your favorite vacation spots are less crowded", and lists Escorted Alps and Cities of Switzerland, 9 days from $2,049, and Paris, Loire Castles & Normandy, 9 days from $2,049, among its getaways.

How the trips work

The about page sets out the model. It says the itineraries "combine iconic destinations with authentic local encounters", and it credits the company's "innovative technology and simple booking process" for letting travelers book far-off trips online in a few steps, with all the travel details shown before booking. The packages are built by Exoticca's own staff, who it says "personally try every single one of our itineraries pre-launch" and run "regular checks of all our services". The ground services come from partners: Exoticca says it only works with hotels that have at least 3.5 stars out of 5 on TripAdvisor, and requires at least 65% "Excellent" or "Very good" traveler ratings to keep a hotel on. The solo travel page describes "self-guided, semi-escorted and fully-escorted adventures" with "24/7 support, pre-booked services and opportunities to connect with like-minded travelers". Its fully-escorted solo group tours, it says, travel in small groups with "a dedicated Tour Leader throughout the journey", while the self-guided versions pre-book hotels and airport transfers and leave the days free.

During the trip, a Traveler's App gives real-time itinerary updates and acts as "your direct line to our 24/7 care team", and the site says the team can be reached "via phone or chat" around the clock. Customer support is offered "in your language". The listing pages do not state group sizes for escorted trips, the languages guides speak, or whether flights are available from every US city; the booking form asks for a departure city and date, which is where those answers begin.

Booking, Flex and rewards

Trips can be booked online or with an expert by phone, and existing bookings are supported by chat, a Help Center with FAQs, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. The fall landing page's header carries the line "Add Flex from $99 /pp. Cancel for any reason." That page does not set out what Flex refunds or how late a cancellation can be made, and none of the landing pages, the homepage or the about page publishes the standard cancellation terms. The Exoticca GO rewards program is free to join with the newsletter, and it is running a promotion of "up to $1,000 travel credit", marked "only until 30 September". What the site leaves open, and who it suits

The discount labels are large (60% off on the flash-sale cards), and the site does not explain how the crossed-out prices are set. Group sizes, guide languages, the Flex terms and the full cancellation policy need to be checked on each trip page or with the team before booking. The about page presents the services on the ground as delivered with local partners, and does not say which, if any, guides Exoticca employs itself.

Exoticca suits travelers who want a flight-inclusive package to a long-haul destination, such as Egypt with a Nile cruise, a Kenya and Tanzania safari or a Peru circuit, bought in one transaction with 24/7 support behind it. The choice between escorted and self-guided versions of similar trips, and the published hotel-rating rule, give a useful picture of what the price buys.
