A Reykjavik travel company that plans the whole trip

Nordic Visitor is a travel company headquartered in Reykjavik that designs and books multi-day tour packages: self-drive road trips, guided small-group tours, privately guided trips, train journeys, Nordic cruises and independent city stays, and its tours run from a few days to several weeks. It builds the itinerary, books the hotels, the rental car or the transport and the included activities, and assigns each traveler a personal travel consultant. Its destination menu covers Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Lapland, Svalbard and Greenland in the north, plus Scotland, Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Alps (with Austria and Germany tours) and Central and Eastern Europe, where the site names Prague, Vienna and Budapest. The head office is at Suðurlandsbraut 34 in 108 Reykjavík, and the site lists sales offices in Sweden, Scotland, Germany and Italy. The About page says staff are based in Reykjavík, Stockholm, Edinburgh, Dublin, Munich, Rome "and beyond".

The company story on the About page starts in 2002, when founder Ásberg Jónsson opened a summer booking office in downtown Reykjavík that became, in the site's words, "Iceland's first privately owned tourist information centre". From there it grew into the Nordics, the UK and further European destinations, and the page now describes the team as "hundreds strong". The site says it is licensed by the Icelandic Tourist Board and lists memberships of the Icelandic Travel Industry Association and the Scottish Tourism Alliance, Travelife certification for sustainability, and status as an official agent for Hurtigruten cruises in Norway.

Travel styles and sample tours

The site sorts every destination by travel style first. Self-drive packages are described as "freedom to explore at your own pace, with scenic routes mapped out for you". Small group tours are for travelers who want to "join like-minded travellers for a guided group trip". Private trips add "your own local guide and private vehicle". Norway adds coastal cruises and train-and-cruise combinations, and the Norway menu links tours from Oslo and Bergen using Norway in a Nutshell by Fjord Tours.

The UK and Ireland tour list shows 69 tours, from 3 to 25 days, with prices per adult "based on bookings for two" running from 535 EUR to 11040 EUR. A few examples from that list, with the sale price the card showed:

• Outlander Experience, a 7-day privately guided trip from Edinburgh, rated 5.0, from 3,167 EUR.
• Explore Edinburgh - Winter, a 3-day city stay from November to March, from 535 EUR.

On the homepage, the winter best sellers include the 8-day Northern Lights Circle Tour of Iceland's Ring Road as a guided small-group trip, and a 10-day Northern Lights by Train and Cruise itinerary covering Tromsø, Flåm and the fjords. The summer list includes Iceland Full Circle in 10 days and a 10-day Highlights of Scandinavia through Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

What a tour includes and how it runs

The homepage FAQ lists what comes with every tour: accommodation "handpicked by locals", breakfast each morning, the transport in the itinerary (rental car, cruise, private vehicle, train or transfers), the listed activities, entrance fees for included attractions, a personalized travel guide, 24/7 support and all taxes and fees. Self-drive packages add car rental with "a trusted local supplier", unlimited mileage, CDW insurance and authorization for 2 drivers. Small group tours add a "professional, English-speaking guide", a minibus and some lunches and dinners. Private tours add a personal English-speaking guide, private transport and private airport transfers.

Most tours can start on any day, the FAQ says, while small groups run on scheduled departures shown in an online calendar. Most trips can be customized with extra nights, upgrades and added activities; small group tours are the exception and follow a set itinerary while the group is together. Flights are not included, and the FAQ advises booking them only after the travel consultant confirms the tour. The site does not publish a maximum group size for its small-group tours; the cards carry "Pace Level" and "Activity Level" labels without a scale that explains them. The Rome team page mentions Comfort Plus and Superior accommodation levels.

Booking, deposits and protection

Booking runs online with a travel consultant behind it, and the header carries a phone line (+354 578 20 80), live chat, email and a Manage Booking area. Prices can be shown in EUR, USD, GBP, CAD, AUD or ISK. The FAQ says a 20% deposit secures a trip and includes Cancellation Protection for free. The Italy team page adds that travelers can "rebook your tour once without any change fees, or cancel with credit", with terms applying, while the homepage speaks of rebooking "without any change fees, whenever you need to". Those two phrasings differ, so the booking terms linked from the site are the place to settle the details. The site also says it follows European Union Package Travel regulations, so a full refund is due if the company becomes insolvent.

On reviews, the homepage says Tripadvisor awards it a Certificate of Excellence "year after year" without naming years, and that 97% of its travelers would recommend it. Individual tour cards show ratings such as 4.8 or 4.9. The site also sells gift vouchers and has a travel agency section. The homepage advertises an Early Bird Sale of up to 15% off 2027 trips booked by 30 September.

What stays open, and who it suits

The site leaves some things to the booking terms and the consultant. It does not state a group-size cap for small groups, and the cancellation wording differs between pages as noted above, so the exact refund rules are worth reading before paying the deposit. Discounts of 10-15% sit on many tour cards, and the crossed-out price is the only comparison offered. The About page mentions local guides but does not say whether they are employed by Nordic Visitor or by partner companies.

Nordic Visitor fits travelers who want a packaged multi-day trip in northern Europe or the UK and Ireland with the logistics handled: a mapped self-drive with booked hotels, a scheduled small-group departure, or a private guide. Someone after a single day tour, a flight-inclusive package, or a destination outside the menu above will need to look elsewhere. For the Nordics in particular, the local offices, the range of travel styles and the inclusions list published on the homepage give a clear picture before booking.
